CHEC Granted Charitable Status

Steinbach, Manitoba – April 12, 2010
- Christian Higher Education Canada executive director, Al Hiebert, is pleased to announce that the association serving 34 Christian post-secondary institutions has been granted charitable status by the Canada Revenue Agency effective January 2010. The designation is based on CHEC's benefit to the community by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of other registered charities within it's organization, and because it advances the Christian faith by increasing the public's knowledge of Christian post-secondary education programs.

"This is a huge break-through answer to prayer. Charitable foundations and individuals are now free to help us achieve our vital goals. The future of Christian higher education in our country is brighter now," Hiebert stated.

CHEC brings benefits to members by providing planning and structuring expertise, and consulting and training on operational and management issues, such as financial management, human resources and fundraising.

"This marks the next step in the development of CHEC as an organization supporting Christian higher education in Canada. We are thankful that God has seen fit to bless us with charitable status as we seek to serve him by serving our member institutions," stated Dr. Stanley Porter, Chair of the Board of CHEC and President of McMaster Divinity College.
