TORONTO,ON -- Tyndale University College and Seminary named Gary Nelson as its new president on February 2, 2010. He will officially begin work in the position on July 1, 2010.
In announcing the decision, Tyndale board of governors chairman Steve Holmes praised Nelson's leadership skills, adding, "Dr. Nelson understands Tyndale and is committed to leading our faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors toward a shared vision to be one of Canada's premier universities and seminaries."
Nelson has authored numerous papers and essays on theological and ecclesiastical matters and is credited with overseeing considerable growth during his 10-year tenure as general secretary of Canadian Baptist Ministries. He has earned doctoral and master's degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary, and completed his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of British Columbia.
"I can think of no greater time to be involved at Tyndale," stated Nelson following the announcement. "It stands at a unique place in developing its voice and mind by educating and equipping students through its programs."
Nelson succeeds former Tynale president Brian Stiller, who took on a new role as chancellor and president of the Tyndale Foundation in July 2009.
